By default, consultation audio is deleted automatically once your transcript has been produced. A clinic can choose to keep it for up to seven days so a consultation can be re-transcribed if something is wrong — otherwise Blue Merino keeps no archive of your recordings.
Patient information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Direct identifiers are removed before text is sent for AI note generation, adding another layer of privacy protection.
Your patient information is not sold or used to train AI models, and the AI provider does not retain the content used to generate your notes.
Your patient and consultation data is processed and stored within Australian infrastructure. Audio transcription takes place in Sydney, AI processing takes place in Sydney, and Blue Merino’s patient data and file storage remain in Australia.
In practical terms, this means your consultation data does not need to be transferred overseas for processing. It remains within the Australian privacy and legal framework, including the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles, while Blue Merino is built around the health-record keeping obligations that apply to Australian healthcare practitioners.

Data travelling between your browser and Blue Merino is protected using TLS encryption, while stored data is encrypted within the database. Sensitive fields receive an additional layer of protection using AES-256-GCM encryption with a unique key for each record.
Before text is sent for AI note generation, direct identifiers such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, Medicare and DVA numbers, dates of birth and addresses are removed or replaced with role labels.
Consultation audio is sent directly to Blue Merino’s own transcription service in Sydney rather than to a third-party transcription API. By default it is deleted automatically once the recording is complete and every segment has been transcribed.
A clinic owner can choose to retain audio for up to seven days, so a consultation can be re-transcribed if there is a problem with the transcript. Outside that, Blue Merino keeps no archive of consultation recordings.

AI processing takes place in Sydney. Patient information is not used to train AI models, and the AI provider does not retain the content used to generate the note.
After an account is closed, Blue Merino retains the account data for 90 days as a safety window in case of an accidental cancellation. After that period, the data is removed.
Individual patient erasure is also supported on request. Blue Merino can hard-delete the copies it holds, including transcript chunks and stored files, while retaining only a de-identified audit record confirming that the erasure occurred.
Nothing already stored in Cliniko is changed or deleted, so the clinic’s clinical record remains intact.
